VHS 1984/2024
As a lover of horror movies, I often hear people say “They just don’t make scary movies like they did in the 80’s”, but in my opinion, that couldn’t be further from the truth. So for this project, I set out to market and package some of my favorite horror movies from 2024, as though they were VHS tapes from 1984. This involved designing the packaging, logo, and visual style cohesive with each film.

80’s horror movies are a huge inspiration of mine. I love the cheesiness, practical effects, and camp from that era of movies. I also love modern horror and there’s been a renaissance lately, with some incredible movies coming out of the last few years. I chose three horror movies with distinct aesthetics and tones:
It's What's Inside: a thriller with plenty of comedic moments and a vivid color palette
The Substance: a neon, sun-soaked, surreal body horror that goes absolutely off the rails
In a Violent Nature: a methodical, bloody slasher in the woods from the killer's POV
I set out to make these three films look like they were release by the same production company while still honoring the aesthetics of the individual films.
